Day 1 Introduction, objectives, orientation for the trip [Syllabus, project, Itinerary, About Costa Rica, Costa Rica Trip, Tropical Health Issues, Checklist, Costa Rica Powerpoint Presentation, passport requirements and Costa Rica General Biogeography), Equipment training
Day 2 Tropical climates and ecosystems and the significance of tropical ecosystems  Range of Ecosystem Types, Rainforest structure, diversity and function (Productivity, Nutrient Cycling, Mineral Cycling, Rainforest Gaps, and Rivers through Rainforests) Equipment training
Day 3 Private transfer from San Jose Airport to El Zota Biological Field Station, stop at Braulio Carrillo
Day 4 El Zota Biological Field Station hiking activities and GPS transects and sampling, field investigation of habitat types, begin environmental mapping project of hydrologic and environmental features with Mobile GIS/GPS, data collection and compilation in GIS. Overnight at Lodge.
Day 5 El Zota Biological Field Station hiking activities and GPS transects and sampling, zip line instruction and use, inclusion of tree heights into environmental mapping project. Overnight.
Day 6 Travel to Tortuguero, Visit the Costa Rican Caribbean Coast, and the Village and Vista al Mar Lodge. Includes Lodging, entrance fee, and tour guide. GPS Primary Forest, white water rafting and Turtle Night Hike
Day 7 Hike up Cerro Tortuguero GPS/GIS and Night Canal tour
Day 8 Travel to San Jose, Moravia Souvenir Shopping, Hotel Don Carlos
Day 9 Flight to Miami
Day 10 Creation and compilation of detailed GIS maps from both El Zota and Caribbean projects, Journals submitted
Day 11 Final Day to submit detailed GIS map portfolio
