The SSP is a special forum at EMECS Conferences for the exchange of information and networking of environmental education activities on the world's coastal seas. Students and their teacher mentors are invited to participate at middle school, high school, and college undergraduate levels. The EMECS 9 SSP will include presentations, panel discussions, and a day-long excursion on Chesapeake Bay for a hands-on experience with authentic data, field programs, and other teachable moments. Persons wishing to participate must submit an abstract that describes their program, activity, or coastal seas education issue that would be of interest to students and educators from other coastal seas. Accepted abstracts will be assigned to specific SSP sessions. Multi-authored abstracts submitted by students and their mentors
are especially encouraged. SSP participants also prepare a Student Declaration for adoption by all EMECS 9 conference delegates. For more information, contact: JoAnne Fairchild, Senior Program Manager, Center for Environment & Society, Washington College, 300 Washington Avenue, Chestertown MD 21620, telephone (410) 778-7295, email jfairchild2@washcoll.edu.
To submit an abstract for the SSP, please follow the standard EMECS9 abstract submission instructions and select “Innovative Education and Communication” for your abstract theme and then when prompted for session topic, select the “Schools and Students Partnership”. Should you have any difficulty submitting your abstract, please contact Jhanna Gilbert at Jhanna@ufl.edu or (352) 392-5930.
